He previously said he wondered what ‘could have been’ with Holly Willoughby.
But bubbly TV blonde Holly was left red-faced on Tuesday night when old friend Jake Humphrey reminded her that they’d ‘shared a bed’ in their early twenties.
Leaving blushing Holly, 36, in a fit of giggles during the latest episode of Play To The Whistle, TV presenter Jake, 38, outrageously joked that they slept together 15 years ago.
‘[We] shared a bed,’ Jake said, remembering when the young presenters worked together on children’s TV.
Then, when Holly insisted that she would always sleep on the floor of his London apartment and not in his bed, Jake told her she was, ‘full of s***’.
Explaining situation further, Holly said: ‘Jake and I have actually known each other for a very long time.
‘In fact we first worked together in 2002 for Fame Academy on CBBC. I used to stay around your house because I hadn’t even moved to London.
‘So I was living in Brighton and you had a lovely flat and I’d come up and stay with you.’
Jake, now married to TV production manager Harriet, previously said that he always wondered what ‘might have been’ if he had not been with Harriet when he knew Holly.
‘Holly’s a good mate,’ he told The Mirror in 2012. ‘But I look back on my time with her and wonder what might have been but I was going out with Harriet at the time and she lived in Leeds.’
Jake elaborated on their platonic sleeping arrangements, saying that he and Holly ended up sharing a bed because they were sick of the inflatible mattress.
‘Eventually,’ Jake continued. ‘It got to the point where we couldn’t be bothered to get the blow-up bed out so for about six months we slept in the same bed.
‘Nothing ever happened. I wouldn’t want to say I met my wife too early but I would just say Holly’s worst habit is she sleeps naked – joking, of course.’
At the time, Jake and Holly were working together on children’s television – both on Celeb Fame Academy and later CBBC At The Fame Academy.
Jake has been with partner Harriet, with whom he has daughter Florence and son Sebastian, for almost 17 years.
Meanwhile, Holly has three children – Belle, Chester, Harry – with her TV producer husband Dan, who she met on the show Ministry of Mayhem.
The show, which Holly shared with Stephen Mulhern, was broadcast on Saturday mornings from January 2004.
