Facebook has a new attraction and isn’t news articles or the latest video streams. It’s intimate and personal posts by you and your friends.
To do this, the social media giant is making personal text statuses as visually appealing and eye-catching as photos and videos by adding a new colored background option.
Users can choose from a variety of colors, like purple, yellow, red, orange, blue and more. They’ve even added a gradient to give more depth and style to the background color. No more plain, boring white backgrounds!
The feature is only available for Android users but everyone on the web, iOS and Android can see them.
The Information reported that personal, original Facebook posts were experiencing a 21% decline year-over-year since the middle of 2015. Instead, users re-shared external content links like viral videos and news stories.
While Facebook seemed to be encouraging users to use its new Live video service, this new function could be their way of getting back to the more personal basics. The company previously added a ‘big text’ feature that makes the font larger for shorter statuses.
The feature attempts to make users personal statuses more attention-grabbing. Combined, the two features could bring new life to the old text status.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg has repeatedly said rich media – like video, VR and 360 – is the future of Facebook sharing. Maybe going back to their simpler roots of text-based sharing will remind users that some things are best said from the heart. And of course, making them stand out with colored backgrounds never hurts.
