Eight years after being tried for the death of his limo driver Costas Christofi, Jayson Williams was retried with a lesser charge.
This time around it was for aggravated assault. The former NBA star decided to plead guilty this time around and will soon serve 18 months in prison.
During the trial in 2002, Williams was able to go free thanks to a hung jury. This time around it looked as though the evidence made its way to the courts just in time. Amazing that it took eight years to get there!
The 6’10″ center was drafted in the first round of the 1990 draft by the Phoenix Suns. He was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers and spent 8 of his 10 years with the New Jersey Nets. Williams was already retired from the game when the incident with Christofi happened at his home in 2002.
