The match of the championship of Turkey in wheelchair basketball between “Galatasaray” and “Besiktas” was interrupted and ended as the fans of the two teams staged a clash. The police used tear gas to disperse them, making it impossible to continue the match.
The hooligan fans have been led to these actions by the fact that fans of the regular basketball championships “Galatasaray”, “Besiktas” and “Fenerbahce” are not allowed to away games of their teams in Istanbul derbies, but in basketball in wheelchairs this rule does not work yet and led to the confrontation of hooligans.
Even some players from both teams got under the furious attacks. Indignation at this behavior of the fans was expressed and announced by both clubs, and the head coach of “Galatasaray” Sedat Ingesa said that fans should not be allowed to play away in this kind of basketball (on wheelchairs).
