2 teen girls escape possible abduction attempt by a mask man in Stoke Newington

Two girls have escaped a terrifying attempted kidnapping in which they were grabbed by a mask-wearing stranger in the street.

The youngsters, aged six and nine, were lured into a secluded spot a short distance away from where they were playing together when the suspect struck.

It was only when they screamed for help that the stranger fled.

Detectives were alerted to their ordeal in Stoke Newington, East London, on Friday night and are treating it as an attempted abduction.

They are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

They confirmed they are looking for a suspect described as wearing all dark-coloured clothing, and a light-coloured facial covering/mask. No arrests have been made.

A Met Police spokesman said: “At around 20:15hrs on Friday, 7 September, officers were alerted to an incident in Coronation Avenue, N16 in which the girls, aged nine and six, were grabbed by an unknown suspect.

“At the time of the incident, around 1900hrs, the girls had been playing together.

“Both girls were led to a secluded area a short distance away. “When the girls began to scream for help the suspect ran away.”

They added: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the details of what is believed at this point to have been an isolated incident.

“The investigation is being treated as an attempted abduction.” Officers have been carrying out door-to-door and CCTV enquiries.
